We already made a top 5 about the biggest gaming controversies of 2015 but felt that we left out a few nasty things that deserve a list on their own. So here are six more gaming scandals that happened in 2015!
1. Hulk Hogan making racist comments
After the racist comments of Hulk Hogan, which were recorded on a secret audio tape, the WWE decided to fire the wrestler. They took this a step further by erasing his name and likeness from the company’s history. This also meant the deletion of his playable character in WWE 2K16 which upset a lot of gaming fans. O brother indeed.
2. Nolan North replaces Peter Dinklage in Destiny
We all know the infamous voice acting of ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Peter Dinklage in Destiny. In 2015 the developers decided to patch him out of the game and replace him with Nolan North. The hectic schedule of Dinklage apparently didn’t line up with theirs but we’re sure his boring performance also had something to do with it.
3. Apple removing games with confederate flag
Apple made a harsh move this year by removing all games that featured the confederate flag from the app store. The confederate flag has been banned in 2014 as it got classified as a racist symbol. This means that it can’t be sold or displayed anymore unless it’s used in a historical context. Apple ignored this argument completely and also removed games that use it in the correct historical context. You can’t change history, Apple. You’re not THAT powerful…
4. Voice actors threatening to strike
In 2015 the video game voice actors union voted in favor of a strike. They did this because their Hollywood colleagues get a lot more benefits than they do. This includes compensation when a product sells really well but also better working conditions and less stressful recording sessions. Bottomline, video game voice actors deserve more respect and we think everybody agrees on that.
Hatred was 2015’s game that had the word ‘controversy’ written all over it. In the game you take on the role of a mass murder and start a killing spree. It was pretty clear that Polish developer Destructive Creations wanted to shock people and cash in on it. They certainly succeeded in that. Unfortunately the game is so bad that controversy is all it has going for it.
6. DOAX 3 not coming to the West
Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 3 not coming to the west upset a lot of gamers in 2015. The publisher stated on their Facebook page that they made this decision based on the western controversy surrounding the female representations in video games. Some gamers are still trying to get it to the west by signing internet petitions but we think it’s just not going to happen. Guess fans of boob physics will have to import this one!
