Everybody remembers stepping onto Halo in the original Xbox game. The epic scope of the green landscape completely blew our minds back in 2002. It was such a joy to discover all the secrets of this vast open space on foot or onboard a warthog.
4. Skyrim – Slaying your first dragon
Slaying your first dragon in the land of Skyrim is absolutely epic. While not your first encounter with a dragon in the game, this is the first time you’re not just running for your life. It’s such a badass feeling to take this huge beast down and absorb its soul.
3. Journey – Desert sliding section
The atmosphere created in the desert sliding section of Journey is just incredible. It feels so liberating to glide across the sand and the fantastic music completely absorbs you every time. What a perfect slice of gaming bliss.
2. Red Dead Redemption – Riding your horse into Mexico
Red Dead Redemption is an great game but Rockstar really outdid themselves with the transition to the Mexican desert. Rarely has there been a more perfect use of music in gaming. It’s a half mile of heaven as you venture into the great unknown.

There have been plenty of epic moments in the God of War series but nothing beats the final boss battle with Ares. The awesome final confrontation between Kratos and his nemesis is truly badass in size, scope and atmosphere.
